ONE Announces the Arrival of ONE Strength on the East Coast of Latin America, Vessel Ready for Alternative Fuels

ONE Strength

Ocean Network Express (ONE) celebrates a major milestone in its global decarbonization strategy: the arrival of the ONE Strength on the East Coast of Latin America. As the company’s first new-generation sustainable vessel to operate in the region, it reinforces the expansion of ONE's owned fleet and its progress toward more sustainable maritime operations.

The ONE Strength is designed to combine operational efficiency with high environmental performance, incorporating innovative technologies and features that ensure a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions. Key environmental highlights include:

  • Readiness for the use of methanol and ammonia as alternative fuels, allowing for future conversion to these cleaner sources;
  • Advanced hull design, optimized for greater energy efficiency;
  • State-of-the-art energy-saving devices;
  • Integration of smart technology for optimized operational performance;
  • Shore power connection, which enables zero-emission operations while docked in ports;
  • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, meeting international NOx Tier III standards.

Measuring 335 meters in length and 51 meters in width, the vessel is classified as Neo-Panamax, meaning it is sized to transit the expanded Panama Canal and has an approximate capacity of 13,932 TEUs. The ONE Strength is part of a series of 20 large ONE vessels, prepared for methanol and ammonia, currently under construction, with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2026.

The vessel will be incorporated into ONE’s SX1 service (East Coast South America Service 1), which connects the Far East to the East Coast of South America, offering direct coverage to the Rio de la Plata ports and extensive connectivity to Southeast Asia via Singapore.

“The arrival of the ONE Strength on the East Coast of Latin America reinforces our commitment to sustainable innovation and to our customers in the region," says Colin de Souza, President of ONE Latin America. He also adds "This vessel represents a step forward in our journey toward a more efficient global operation with lower environmental impact, aligning with our 2030 Plan to reduce Scope 1 carbon emissions by 70% and our mission to achieve net-zero carbon shipping through best practices and collaboration.”
